A lady flying into DFW International Airport from Vietnam was found with 22 pounds of illegal animal parts in her bag a week ago.
We understand that Officials with U.S. Customs and Border Protection seized raw brains, hearts, heads, tongues, feet and other body parts from chickens, pigs and cows.
"These sorts of meat items are potentialcarriers for harmful diseases that could bring about crushing consequences for our farming industry," said Cleatus Hunt Jr., port chief for Dallas U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
The discovery was made on February 4, when the lady gave a negative customs declaration, but was referred to have her luggage examined.
Officials said the animal parts were destroyed by using steam sterilization.
The woman, whose name was not released, is a permanent resident of the United States.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection said it seizes about 4,638 prohibited animal products per day.
