1. Maintain a very high sense of alertness
2. Remain situationally aware of your surroundings
3. Maintain low-to-moderate profile
4. Keep valuables including handbags, jewelleries, laptops, etc. out of sight, preferably in the car boot. For precautionary purpose, it is not a bad idea to keep a dummy android phone and small cash of say N3k to N5k in your vehicle, just in case. However, both must be kept out of sight, but within easy reach in the event of an attack
6. Information Security; be careful what you say when using a phone in public
7. Use the middle lane of the major road, avoid service lane
8. Stick to well-travelled, well-lit roads; avoid short cuts through the hinterland
9. Avoid giving alms to beggars by the roadside
10. Do not offer and do not accept lift from strangers, including unsolicited 'escort policemen and other uniform men' by the roadside
11. As much as possible, avoid isolated, remote or unusually quite road where security presence is suspect.
12. Also, as much as possible, please avoid late night movement or functions, especially in remote areas where security presence is inadequate
13. Obey local custom and pay attention to local intelligence for early warning
14. Staffs are advised to avoid working late into the night. Close in time and arrive home before nightfall as most traffic robbery usually occur under the cover of darkness, very early morning before daybreak or late evening/night
15. Always keep vehicle doors locked and windows shut
16. Worst case scenario, remain calm and cooperate with the assailants when you come under attack. Your life is worth far more than material things
17. Never argue with anybody behind the trigger. Don't be a dead hero or heroine!
18. Always remain extra vigilance around choke points, especially under bridges, when stopped by traffic lights, at bus stops, suspected booby-trap, 'victim' in distress, street barriers, road bumps, boom barriers, U-turns, bends, Crescent, bad roads, etc.
19. Avoid making purchases in traffic; do not patronize street hawkers
20. If possible, avoid traffic-prone roads, use alternative routes if safe to do so and pay attention to traffic updates from reliable sources.
