How to Share MTN Airtime (Credit)

It is very easy sharing airtime/credit from your MTN account to other MTN customers' account. However, you must first have a verified PIN to ensure security and prevent fraud.

Just follow the following steps:

1. Change your default PIN:
Generally, the default pin is either 0000 or 1234. It is imperative you change to a personalized pin.

To do this, text:

DefaultPIN NewPIN NewPIN to 777 as a message.

Assuming your preferred PIN is 8901, just text 0000 8901 8901 to 777.

You will receive a ‘success’ prompt


To do this via USSD code, just dial *600*default PIN*New PIN*New PIN# on your phone.

Assuming your preferred PIN is 8901dial *600*0000*8901*8901#.



2. How to Transfer Credit using SMS

You can transfer credit from your phone to another MTN customer’s phone at anytime by sending an SMS with Transfer, Recipient’s Number, Amount and PIN to 777. For example, you can send an SMS with ‘Transfer 08031234567 1500 8901’ to 777.

Upon sending this message, you will receive an SMS asking you to confirm that you want to make the transfer by sending an SMS with 'YES' to 777

There is also an alternative method:

Dial *600*phone number*amount*PIN# then press the send button. For example, if you want to transfer 4000 to 09064851978, you have to dial *600*09064851978*4000*8901#. If entered correctly, you will receive a notification message that your transaction completed successfully.
